DURSLEY-continued.

The Bishop will hold a Confirmation in Dursley Church, on Wednesday, in Easter Week, April 8th, at 3 o'clock p.m. A sufficient number of the front seats in the Nave will be reserved for the Candidates, but the rest of the Church will be open for all who wish to be present at that solemn and interesting Ordinance. It is very desirable, that as many as possible should be present, and add their hearty "Amen" to the Bishop's prayer for those confirmed, "that they may continue Christ's for ever, and daily increase in His Holy Spirit more and more, till they come to His everlasting kingdom."

The Lecture on Thursday evening, April 9th, of which notice has been given by hand-bills, is one, which Mr. Lyon has delivered in many towns in this country. It is highly spoken of. Its object is simply to show-what so many even of Church people little understand, the real position, claims, object and work of the Church of England that Reformed Branch of the ancient Catholic Church, which has for so many years been established in this land. We hope that it will be well attended by poor as well as rich.

KING-STANLEY.

On Good Friday, the hours of service will be 10.30 a.m., and 6.15 p.m.

On Easter-Day, there will be a Celebration of Holy Communion at 8 a.m., and also at the 10.30 a.m. service. Morning Prayer will be said at 11 o'clock on Monday and Tuesday in Easter Week.

It is expected that the builders will take possession of the Parish Church on Monday, April 13th, for the beginning of the restoration work. From that date, until further notice be given, Public Worship will be held in the National School-rooms. On Sunday, April 19th, and following Sundays, the hours of Service will be the

same as hitherto in the Church; but, as the evenings become lighter, a change will most likely be made in the time of the afternoon service.

The Class-room will be used for the Daily Morning Prayer, and Celebrations of Holy Communion on Week-days.

A lecture in connection with the Church Defence Institution will be given in the School rooms on Friday evening, April 10th, by W. Lyons, Esq., Barrister-at-law. Some very valuable information will be supplied concerning the position and work of the Church of England, and at the present day when the enemies of the Church are so actively engaged in attempting to hinder her labours and influence; such a lecture cannot fail to be most useful to many. It is the duty. therefore, of all earnest Church people, not only to hear what Mr. Lyon will have to say to them, but also to induce others to come. No charge will be made for admission. Noticepapers will be issued in good time.

The Report of the Day Schools' Examination has not yet been received.

STINCHCOMBE.

The Subscriptions and Donations for the Library last year amounted to £3. 9s. 9d., and the moneys expended in the purchase and binding of books, with a few small expenses connected with the room,-fires, candles, &c., came to £3. 1s. 11d.; and as there was 13s. 6d. in hand from the previous year, it appears that we have the sum of £1. 1s. 4d. to carry forward to the present year's account. The above statement does not include all that has been spent for the library, as many new books have been bought and presented to the parish by the Ven. Sir George Prevost.

The sums collected in the parish for Home and Foreign Missions last year, amounted to £13. 5s. 9d.; of which £11. 14s. 9d. was sent to the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel, £1. 11s. to the Additional Curates' Society.

The Choir propose to have, under the patronage of the Vicar, another Concert of secular music in the new School-room, on or about Tuesday, April 23rd. The amount realized by the last Concert, which was about £4. 3s. 9d., will (it is feared) be scarcely sufficient to pay both for the bell and for the cost of putting it up, and it is proposed that whatever is gained by this second Concert should be applied to the clearing off of any debt that may be incurred. A programme will be issued in due time, specifying the musical pieces to be performed, and the prices of the tickets.

For want of space the Offertory and School Accounts are deferred till next month.

ULEY cum OWLPEN.

One of the South Windows in the aisle of Uley Church has been filled with stained glass, by Wailes, of Newcastle, in memory of the late J. G. Rowley, Esq., of Rockstowes House, whose death was so much regretted some while since.

The subject of the window is the Adoration of the Wise Men. On a scroll, in the upper light, is the text:- "When they saw the Star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy."-Matthew ii. 10.

At a Meeting held at Owlpen on the 16th of March it was decided immediately to commence the restoration of the Church, according to the plans of J. P. S. Awbyn, Esq., architect, at an estimate of £795, given by Mr. Clutterbuck, builder, of Gloucester. The gallery is to be removed, the Church reseated, and an entirely new Chancel and Vestry added.

Towards this sum, the Warneford Trustees have given £50, and the Diocesan Association £40. Also the following subscriptions have been promised :

T. A. Stoughton, Esq.
Rev. C. C. Browne

Mr. F. Garn

Mr. Marsh

Mr. J. Nichols

J. C. Bengough, Esq.

This Balance Sheet is satisfactory, as it shows a sum in hand of between three and four pounds, while nearly twenty pounds has been this year expended in external repairs, and in a complete painting and colouring of the two Schoolrooms and Lobbies, which had not been done for several years and was greatly needed. The School was examined February 27th, but appeared to do only moderately well. The Report has not yet been received.
