STINCHCOMBE.

The Christmas decorations of the Church showed marks of particular care having been spent on them. On either side of the East Window was a double triangle made of wood, overlaid with leaves. Below each of these, and on a level with the base of the window, was an ornamental design in wood, covered with leaves. And on either side of the Reredos was a scroll in scarlet cloth, bordered with variegated holly. On these scrolls were the words, "Unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given," in leaves of variegated holly. The Reading-desk had as its appendage a large star-shaped decoration. On the Pulpit was a cross of red leaves on wool, and a circle of the same materials adorned the top. The Windows were surrounded with wreaths of evergreen, and the white stone-work of the pillars was set off by dark stripes of evergreen. The Font was pretty, in which was a wooden cross covered with a red flower and green foliage, and the silver leaves of an African tree.

On New Year's Eve there was a Midnight Service, at which an address was given by the Rev. J. A. Rawlins, Curate of Bisley, and late Curate of Stinchcombe. The attendance was fair considering the snowy and slippery state of the ground, and no doubt it would have been much larger had it not been for that hindrance.

On the Feast of the Epiphany the school children were regaled with tea and cake in the school-room. This was supplied to them by the kindness of Mrs. Anne Eleanor Prevost, sister of Sir George Prevost, in commemoration of her 80th birthday, which was on New Year's Day. Never had so many children met in the schoolroom before. It was Sunday School, Day School, and Night School all at once, and there were no less than 123 present. Tea began and ended with the Grace and a Hymn. After tea a song and "God save the Queen were sung. The Archdeacon addressed a few words to the children, asking those of them who could, to remember the kind and aged lady, his sister, in their prayers that night. And before the children left the school-room they gave three hearty cheers for Mrs. Anne Prevost.

The Treasurer of the Church and Choir fund presents his account, and begs to observe that in consequence of the large cost incurred by the repair of the organ, there is a very considerable deficiency, the actual deficit at present exceeding £4, and at least £8 will be needed before the usual annual collection in July. The Vicar proposes to have an offertory to meet this deficiency immediately after Easter.

The Consecration of Owlpen Church will take place on Friday, February 19, 1875. The Consecration Service, with Holy Communion, will be at 11.30. a.m. The Sermon will be preached by the Lord Bishop. Evening Prayer will be at 6 p.m., with a Sermon by

the Rev. H. C. Powles. We hope many of our readers will be able to attend one or other of the Services. There is still a very considerable deficit in the sum required, which it is hoped may be met by the Offertories on the 19th. The work now completed consists in an entirely new chancel with apsidal termination, lighted by five early English windows, with a vestry and organ chamber adjoining. Besides this the gallery has been removed and the body of the church entirely reseated; it was also necessary to provide a new font, pulpit, and lectern. The altar cloth, pulpit hangings, etc., are of very beautiful needlework and elaborate design.

During Lent, in addition to the usual Morning Services, there will be a Wednesday Evening Service, with Sermon at 7 o'clock. There will also be a Service at Owlpen on Tuesday afternoons.

During Lent any of our Parishioners who are able to devote a little time towards helping those in distress, are invited to meet at the Lecture-room from 3 o'clock till 4.30 every afternoon,

to help in making clothing for the poor in the East End of London. Work will be provided for all hands, but, of course, any one is at liberty to bring and present their own work. By the end of Lent, it is to be hoped a large parcel will be ready to send to one of the London parishes.

A Sermon will be preached on February 21st, and a Meeting held in the School-room on the 23rd, at 7 o'clock, in aid of Home Missions.

The Concert given by the Glee Society at Christmas was a great success, but, as owing to the weather many were prevented attending, the Concert is to be repeated by special request, on Wednesday, the 3rd February, when it is to be hoped many will be able to avail themselves of this rare musical treat. The Prologue and Epilogue specially written for the occasion by one of our wellknown Contributors (which we should have inserted had space permitted), were exceedingly well delivered by the Rev. J. C. Hudson, Curate of the Parish.
