This singular character was a native of Portree. Having lost his eyesight at the age of 14, he became incapacitated for the ordinary occupations of his station in life; but he contrived somehow or other to get himself appointed a catechist. His intellectual powers were of the first order-his memory quite remarkable for its accuracy and retentiveness.
