of Christ; Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or the sword? Ver. 36. (As it is written, for thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.) Ver. 37. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

Heb. x. 34. For ye had compassion of me in my bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves, that ye have a better and an enduring substance. Ver. 35. Cast not away therefore, your confidence, which hath great recompense of reward.

1 Pet. iii. 14. If ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye; and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled; Ver. 17. For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well-doing, than for evil-doing.

1 Pet. iv. 12. Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial, which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: Ver. 13. But rejoice, insomuch as ye are partakers of Christ's suffering; that when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. Ver. 14. If ye be re proached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the Spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.

To them that are excommunicated unjustly. -Is. lxvi. 5. Hear the word of the Lord, ye

that tremble at his word: your brethren that hated you, that cast you out for my name's sake, said, Let the Lord be glorified; but he shall appear to your joy, and they shall be ashamed.

Luke, vi. 22. Blessed are ye when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the son of man's sake. Ver. 23. Rejoice ye in that day; and leap for joy, for, behold, your reward is great in heaven.

III. To Patience and Submission.

Lam. iii. 26. It is good that a man should both hope, and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord. Ver. 27. It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth. Ver. 28. He sitteth alone and keepeth silence, because he hath borne it upon him. Ver. 29. He putteth his mouth in the dust, if so be there may be hope. Ver. 31. For the Lord will not cast off for ever.

Heb. x. 35. Cast not away your confidence, which hath great recompense of reward. Ver. 36. For ye have need of patience, that after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. Ver. 37. For yet a little while, and he that shall come, will come, and will not tarry.

Heb. vi. 12. That ye be not slothful, but

followers of them, who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

Jam. i. 2. My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptation: Ver. 3. Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. Ver. 4. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. Ver. 12. Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried he shall receive the crown of life which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

Rom. v. 4. We glory in tribulation, knowing that tribulation worketh patience: Ver. 4. And patience, experience; and experience, hope.

Prov. x. 28. The hope of the righteous shall be gladness.

1 Pet. v. 6. Humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that ye may be exalted in due time.

James, iv. 10. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up. James, v. 7. Be patient, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and the latter rain. Ver. 8. Be ye also pat patient, establish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh. Ver. 11. Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the pa

tience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord, that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.

1 Pet. ii. 20. If when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.

IV. To Perseverance.

Matt. x. 22. He that endureth to the end shall be saved. Chap. xxiv. 13.

John, viii. 31. If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed. Ver. 32. And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

John, xv. 7. If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

1 Cor. xv. 58. My beloved brethren; be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, for as much as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

Gal. vi. 9. Let us not be weary in well doing; for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

Heb. x. 23. Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering, for he is faithful that promised. Ver. 35. Cast not away your confidence, which hath great recom. pense of reward.

1 John, ii. 24. Let that abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye shall also continue in the Son, and in the Father. Ver. 28. And now, little children, abide in him, that when he shall appear, ye may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.

2 John, ver. 8. Look to yourselves, that we lose not the things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward. Ver. 9. Whosoever transgresseth and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God: He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ he hath both the Father and the Son.

Rev. ii. 10. Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.

To him that overcometh. Rev. ii. 7. To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God. Ver. 11. He that overcometh, shall not be hurt of the second death: Ver. 17. To him that overcometh, will I give to eat of the manna; and I will give him a white evand in the stone a new name which no man knoweth, saving he

that receiveth it.

Rev. iii. 5. He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment, and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels. Ver. 12. Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temole of my God, and he shall go no more out,
