"If any book shall not be returned within the time specified on the label, the Librarian shall intimate, by a note put into the Post-office (for which Twopence shall be charged), that the book is required in the Library; and if the book shall not be returned within twenty-four hours after the posting of the note, a fine of Twopence per night shall be exacted for every night thereafter until the book be returned."

"In the event of any book being damaged or lost, it shall be in the option of the Directors, either to impose a Fine, or to require that the book be replaced; and in case the volume shall be one of a series, it shall be in the power of the Directors to insist on the whole set being replaced."
