ROM Warfaw, Feb. 1. That the King of Poland in going from his Coach to his Apartment, ftruck the Toe of his diftemper'd Foot fuch a Blow as fet it a bleeding, pon which he fwooned, being very ill before; this being follow'd by a Fever, and the Sore mortifying, he died in a few Hours; having just arrived to his Grand Climacterick, the 63d Year of his Age. He has left one only Son, now Elector of Saxony. A Report was fpread, grounded upon a Prediction made to his Majefty when in the Ukraine, that the Polanders had massacred him. When he was only Prince of Saxony, he was fhewn himself in a Glafs, with the Electoral Coronet up on his Head, then with a Royal Crown, and lastly drowned in his own Blood, furrounded with Sabres; all which has exactly happen'd as they make it out, thus: He firft fucceeded his Brother in the Electorate; was afterwards elected King of Poland; and died by the Lofs of a great deal of Blood by his Foot, whilft the Dyet was affembled, and had drawn their Sabres upon the Nuncio Hurka. The firft of May is fixed for the Election of a new King.

From Verfailles, Feb. 4. That Madame de France, their Majefties third Daughter, died, aged 4 Years, 6 Months, and 21 Days. Great Preparations are making for War all over the Kingdom, and a Squadron of 13 Men of War is fitting out at Toulon,

From Naples, Feb. 9. The Shocks of an Earthquake was felt almoft throughout the Kingdom; particularly at Benevento. That about the fame Time Mount Etna had thrown out a prodigious Number of large Stones, tome being carried as far as Catanea.

From the Hague, That the States General had appointed a Day for folemn Thanksgiving, with Fafting and Prayers to be kept the 11th of next Month; alledging, among other Causes, the new Scourge brought upon that State by Sea Worms, which had eaten the Piles and wooden Works defigned to preferve and fecure the Dykes against

the Violence of the Sea; (tho' that Scourge was neither fo great nor fo dangerous, as the Publick were made to believe, by groundless Reports malicioufly fpread) whence it happens, that the State, already groaning under the heavy Taxes of former Wars, cannot yet recover itfelf. Three Pruffian Of ficers having been feiz'd at Maeftricht for endeavouring to corrupt fome Soldiers of that Garifon, and inviegle them into the Service of the King their Mafter, had been condemn'd by the States. General; two of them were beheaded; their Guide (being a Subject of the State) was hanged; and the Serjeant, having feen the Execution, was fent away, as guilty of no Crime but of obeying the Orders of his Superiors. The King of Pruffia, enraged at these' refolute Proceedings, threatned the States with the Effect of his Difpleasure, and actually made Reprizals, by feizing) fome of their Officers in the Dutchy of Cleves.

From Bruffels, Feb. 3. The Parish Prieft of Haaren, imagining that fomewhat amifs in the Air was the Occafion of the then Epidemical Colds, ftuck a white Loaf upon a high Pole in his Garden, and let it remain 24 Hours; after which he gave a Piece of the Bread to his own Dog, and a Piece to his Neighbour's, of which they both burst.

From Seville, That the Marquis of Santa Cruz, of whofe Fate there had been various Reports, was alive at Algiers, but not entirely recover'd of the Wounds which he receiv'd when taken Prifoner in the Engagement with the Moors before Oran; that he had been spoken to by the Spanish Agent for Redemption at Algiers; and that the King had offer'd 400,000 Picces of Eight to the Marchioness towards the Redemption of her Husband.

From Barcelona, that a Veffel, carrying the English Flag, had been attack'd off that Place by a Spanish Privateer, but defended herself with great Bravery, tho' fhe loft all her Men except three, who carried her fafe into Cagliari. P
