In the evening he gave a state dinner, at which were present the lord chancellor, the lord chief juftice of the court of King's-Bench, the speaker of the house of commons, the commander in chief, &c. &c. &c.-The caftle was most brilliantly illuminated.

The duke of Leinfter has accepted the command of the Kildare militia, which are to be embodied immediately.

A few days fince twenty-feven defenders were apprehended in the county of Longford, eight of whom were admitted to bail, and nineteen remain in prison.

7.This day the unfortunate M'Dermott was executed at the commons of Kilmainham, purfuant to his fentence, for a riot and burglary at Caftie-Tenifon, in the county of Rofcommon, in June 1793.

Same day the new recorder, Mr. Walker, prefided, for the first time, at an adjournment of the quarter-feffions, in the Tholfel

court.

One M Dermot, a near relation to the above unhappy man, has been lately committed to prifon, on a charge of being a leader of the defenders.

14.-Laft night the guns at the Park were fired in confequence of lord Howe's complete victory over the French fleet. The battery was answered by three feu de joyes from the regiments in garrifon, which were drawn out on the quays, and the night was concluded by a general and moft brilliant illumination.

A number of unthinking youths attacked the police watch-house in St. Andrew's-ftreet, with ftones for more than half an hour, during which time the police-men who were in it fired upon them several shots, from one of which a perfon, then paffing, was wounded in the fhoulder: the ball was shortly after extracted, and the young man is in a fair way of recovery.--- -The arrival of one of the sheriffs prevented further mischief, as the affailants immediately difperfed.

Wednesday last being election day for mafter and wardens of the corporation of Taylors, Mr. Alexander Bell, of Mary's-abbey, was chofen mafter, and Meffrs. Sweeny and Hautenville wardens.

16. The examinations for the vacant fellowfhip in Trinity-college clofed on Saturday laft; and yesterday Mr. Ufher was declared the fuccefsful candidate.

We are concerned that fome of the favours of our mathematical correfpondents have been miflaid, but they fhall be fearched for. It would be utterly impoffible to infert a tenth of them: they are fo numerous, that even a felection is difficult. We ever have endeavoured to prefer thofe which feemed to have more of utility than curiofity, and fhall continue to do so. gives us pain to remark, that we have received many mutual charges of plagiarism, which shall be now fuppreffed; but must declare, that we will publish in future all well-fupported inftances of fuch conduct, and hope this hint will be attended to.
