OUR YOUNG FOLKS:

AN ILLUSTRATED MONTHLY MAGAZINE

FOR BOYS AND GIRLS.

Edited by J. T. Trowbridge and Lucy Larcom.

UR YOUNG FOLKS holds undisputed the foremost rank among magazines for

OUR

Boys and Girls. The variety and excellence of its Stories, Sketches of Travel and Discovery, Papers on Scientific and Industrial topics, Poems, and other diversified Literary Contents, render it both instructive and entertaining, and win for it the hearty favor of those who read for amusement or for profit. The number and superiority of its pictures give it additional value and attraction.

OUR YOUNG FOLKS FOR 1872

Will be fully equal to the best of the seven volumes already published. The leading Serial Story will be

A Chance for Himself. By J. T. TROWBRidge.

This story will relate the fortunes of a boy, who, after various hard experiences in which fate seemed to be against him, finally has "a chance for himself." Some of the characters that figured in "Jack Hazard" will reappear here. Mr. Trowbridge's name is sufficient guaranty that this story will be of the highest order of interest and excellence.

Crusoe Life. By REV. R. D. CARTER.

This is a true story of a boy cast away on an island of Oceanica, and relates facts no less surprising or fascinating than those of Robinson Crusoe or the Swiss Family Robinson. It will run through several numbers, and will be fully illustrated.

Sketches of Natural History. By HARVEY WILDER, C. A. STEPHENS, and others. The value and readableness of the sketches heretofore given by these writers-of Bears, Wolves, Monkeys, Elephants, etc. - indicate the character of those to be anticipated in the coming volume. Scientific Articles. A series of attractive papers on Popular Science, full of information and curious interest By Prof. F. W. CLARKE, Author of A Lump of Charcoal," etc., AUGUSTUS HOLMES, and other well-known writers.

Short and Lively Stories. By Miss E. S. PHELPS, MRS. A. M. DIAZ, C. A. STEPHENS, ELIZABETH KILHAM, AUNT FANNY, and others.

Poems. By LUCY LARCOM, MRS. E. AKERS ALLEN (FLORENCE PERCY), MRS. CELIA THAXTER, J. T. TROWBRIDGE, MARIAN DOUGLAS, NORA PERRY, and others.

Our Young Contributors have furnished a very attractive department the past year, and will probably make it even better for the year to come.

The Evening Lamp will be filled with a great variety of curious games, - Enigmas, Puzzles, Rebuses, &c. MR G. B BARTLETT, whose genius for amusing has been fully proved in OUR YOUNG FOLKS and by his public exhibitions, will describe some of his unique entertainments. S. ANNIE FROST will furnish some capital Charades.

Our Letter Box, which has proved so popular a department, will be carefully attended to. The Editors will answer inquiries from their readers, give them such counsel or encouragement as seems needed, and talk familiarly with them on interesting literary, scientific, social, moral, and miscellaneous topics.

"Picture Stories," and Prize Puzzles and Questions, will give additional attraction to the magazine.

TERMS.-Single copies, 20 cents. $2.00 a year in advance. An extra copy for Five Subscriptions. OUR YOUNG FOLKS and ATLANTIC MONTHLY, $5.00.
