Formerly a Merchant and Native of Portugal Who Departed this Life on the 7th day of March 1780 in the 69th year of His age.

A Native of Portugal

who by an early service in the navy

of Great Britain had obtained all the privileges of a natural born subject and in the course of many years residence in this country acquired a respectable fortune With reputation, which to shew his

thankfulness to Divine Providence

He divided between the poor and his own relations. With a most admirable resignation He submitted to the will of his Creator and departed this life

on the 20th day of October 1783

Aged 87 years.

Commanded by the King of Prussia,
and afterwards commanded at Quiberon,
A body of French in the service of
His Britannic Majesty

where he received a mortal wound

as he fought with his wonted valour He died November 1795.

With the enlightened sanctity of a good Clergyman the amiable and endearing qualities of the pleasing companion and warm friend.

His exemplary morals and piety,
His placid equal manners,
and his charity to the poor,
obtained the esteem and respect
of all who knew him,
